Rajshahi Kings will face arguably the favourites of BPL 2016 Dhaka Dynamites today at 7:15 pm in a crucial encounter. Dhaka Dynamites won their first match in an emphatic fashion whereas Rajshahi Kings can only blame themselves for a loss that could well be vital 2 points in their bag.
Dhaka Dynamites, a very strong side with their combination of star-studded local and foreign collection will definitely try to enrich their tally and go upwards in the points table. Their captain Shakib, last match’s power performer Mehedi Maruf alongside trusted Mohammad Shahid with the ball, experienced Sanga, T20 specialists Bravo and Andre Russell will be the players to watch. Any of them and a couple of other players can change the course of the match anytime.
On the other hand, Rajshahi Kings will give their best and try to perform out of their way to make a mark on this year’s BPL. A new franchise in this edition with not so much options in picking local players during the draft due to retention by previous teams, they have tried to make the best use of available picks and conjured up a balanced team. They bowled exceptionally well in the last match and kept their opponents at bay for most parts of the match. Abul Hasan Raju was brilliant with the ball as he claimed a 5 wicket haul which was also the best bowling figure by a Bangladeshi bowler in BPL history. He would be looking forward to continuing his form. Talk of the town Miraz continued his good form with the ball as he send one home at his very first over in BPL. It was disappointing that he wasn’t able to show his all around talents as he didn’t get to face a ball while batting.
In the bowling department, the Kings have the option of bringing in Kesrick Williams but only if they want to replace Md. Sami, who bowled quite well in the last game. Milinda Siriwardene could come into the think-tank’s consideration also.
It seemed that there was an opening batsman missing and that might well be an opportunity for Rony Talukder to fill in. Mominul needs to carry on the way he played in the first match and play the anchor role. Rajshahi desperately need their top batsmen Sabbir and Akmal to fire tomorrow to make a match out of it. There was a lot of talks for not playing Miraz up the order; so we could see him batting at no. 4 or 5 if the management feel right depending on the match situation.
As the match will start in flood lights the toss could be a crucial one because of the dew factor at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. Other than that, the Kings’ success tomorrow will largely depend on top order’s contribution and good spells from their 2nd tier bowlers.
The Kings lost a nail-biter and the supporters were heart-broken. Good thing is, the players and the inspiring captain Darren Sammy are not broken but more determined. They are all up and spirited and will give more than 100% in the field today to get those important 2 points.
