This was a great test for Rajshahi Kings. in many ways. They were facing their north bengal rivals, who are the table toppers right now. Rangpur were in a great form winning matches in massive margins and losing only one. But big names and big stats do not cower the Kings, that they proved so emphatically in front of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium crowd.
Kings were sent to bat first, it was surprisingly the first time in this BPL the Rajshahi Kings were batting first. They did make a good start despite losing wickets at regular intervals. Thanks to the some cameo performances from Sabbir, Junaid and Patel – the Kings were 75 for 2 at 10 overs. But the runs dried up after that and at the end of over 17 the Kings were 107/5. But the last 3 overs, were what you call a showstopper. Captain Sammy and Umar Akmal scored an unbelievable 55 off the last 3 overs. Riders had to score 163 to win.
Kings bowlers did brilliantly, they kept the batsman in tight check with measured bowling and intelligent field placements. Miraz, Farhad, Patel did good, Returning Nazmul Apu and Mohammad Sami was the pick of the lot. Apu deceived with his flight and awkward turns and Sami with his pace and length bowling. In the end the pressure kept building up and Riders were not able to cope with it.
It is the second time in this BPL the Kings have beaten the table toppers. We can beat anyone as we have promised, just need to believe in ourselves and continue this winning streak.
